Summer academy is a 1-week summer camp for children ages 12-14. This is a more academic version of the camp with a blended learning experience where the participants will be learning about various topics in space science and technology and will engage in several experiments, hands-on activities, as well as discussions led by Western Space faculty, postdoctoral fellows and/or graduate students.
The camps are run by the Institute for Earth and Space Exploration (Western Space), a leading organization for planetary science and exploration research and training in Canada. The Camp Coordinator, Dr. Parshati Patel, has a PhD in astronomy and planetary science. The camp counselors are certified in First Aid and CPR-C. For the academy, the sessions will be either led by the Western faculty, postdoctoral fellows or graduate students.
